Lieutenant General Kongcheep revealed that since July last year, Thailand’s security authorities have arrested as many as 44,168 illegal crossers comprising 33,576 along the border and 10,592 in Thailand’s territory.

As Myanmar’s daily case numbers spike, Thailand’s defense authorities have ordered security officers including policemen, soldiers, and local officers to reinforce the border to prevent any illegal crossings.

The Ministry of Defense’s spokesperson, Lieutenant General Kongcheep Tantrawanit revealed that since July last year, Thailand’s security authorities have arrested as many as 44,168 illegal crossers comprising 33,576 along the border and 10,592 in Thailand’s territory.

In July 2021 alone, over 4,300 illegal crossers were arrested.
In response to the current state of Myanmar’s economy, internal conflict, and rising Covid-19 cases, Thailand must keep a careful watch on the 2,401 kilometer-long border between the two countries.

Forces have been deployed to guard both land and sea borders.
Meanwhile, in the east, patrol forces are having to be more cautious as illegal crossers from Laos and Cambodia have recently been spotted more frequently. (NNT)
