Bangkok – The Ministry of Commerce has revealed that Thailand is still on the US’s intellectual property watch list despite its continued efforts to crack down on violations of intellectual property rights.
Commerce Minister Sonthirat Sonthijirawong says the U.S. Trade Representative’s annual report on global IP infringements included Thailand on the Watch List under the 2018 Special 301 report.
Thailand moved up from the bottom tier (Priority Watch List) in December last year, which has since boosted the country’s image, trade, and investment.
The report stressed that there remain IP concerns in Thailand such as counterfeit pharmaceuticals, border and criminal enforcement against counterfeiting, government use of unlicensed software, procedural obstacles to enforcement against unauthorized camcording, just to name some.
Sonthirat promised that the current administration will continue to fight all forms of IP infringement and develop new measures to protect IP rights.
