BANGKOK, Thailand – Airports of Thailand (AOT) will implement a new automated biometric identification system, which will use facial recognition technology to verify passengers’ identity, starting from 1 November for domestic travelers and from 1 December 2024 for international travelers.
The biometric system will be available at six major airports: Suvarnabhumi Airport, Don Mueang Airport, Chiang Mai Airport, Mae Fah Luang Airport, Phuket Airport, and Hat Yai Airport.
To use the system, passengers will be required to allow access to their identification information when checking in at the counter or using self-service check-in at the airports. The system will store passengers’ biometric information and travel itineraries electronically, allowing them to get through checkpoints without showing their passports and boarding passes. The system will facilitate their check-in process, making the process faster and more convenient. (PRD)
