Thailand sees rain forecast countrywide

BANGKOK, Sept 20 –– The Meteorological Department of Thailand has forecast torrential rain as likely countrywide, and the capital was hit by continuous rain overnight, causing water backup in some areas.

The weather atgency said in its latest advisory statement that the tropical depression which came across central Vietnam, Laos and Ubon Ratchathani is now downgraded to a low pressure cell across the Northeast, including the central provinces of Saraburi, Lop Buri and Nakhon Nayok.

Rain was expected at Phitsanulok, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, Trat, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Sing Buri, Saraburi, Lop Buri, Ang Thong, Suphan Buri and Ayutthaya, as well as Bangkok and vicinity.

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Department of Drainage and Sewerage reported that overnight rains backed up and clogged at the Makasan and Bang Khen areas.

It was expected that the rain would ease in the afternoon.

In the central province of Ang Thong, water from the Chao Phraya River overflowed to flood Pa Mok’s Phong Pheng district. The continued heavy rain has caused more damage to flooded households. Residents must move their valuables to higher ground.
