Thailand, South Korea introduce livestock certification via blockchain

Sorawit said signed the Agreement on the Electronic Exchange of Health Certificates Using the Blockchain System with Kim Yoo Mi, chief of the Imported Food Safety Policy Bureau of South Korea.

Department of Livestock Development and the Imported Food Safety Policy Bureau of South Korea signed an agreement on electronic livestock health certification via the blockchain system.

Sorawit Thaneeto, director-general of the Department of Livestock Development, said he signed the Agreement on the Electronic Exchange of Health Certificates Using the Blockchain System with Kim Yoo Mi, chief of the Imported Food Safety Policy Bureau of South Korea. It was the first agreement of its kind that South Korea signed with Thailand.



The agreement will take effect in August and facilitate the submission of Thai livestock health certificates to South Korea, especially certificates for poultry which was popular among South Korean consumers, Mr Sorawit said.



Last year South Korea imported about 35,000 tons of Thai poultry worth 3.99 billion baht. It was the biggest importer of Thai poultry. (TNA)
