Thailand starts distributing Cannabis seedlings for villagers to grow as household plants

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will hand cannabis seedlings for villagers to grow in Buri Ram province on Thursday.

BANGKOK – Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul will hand cannabis seedlings for villagers to grow in Buri Ram province on Thursday.



Dr Kitti Losuwannarak, director of the Medical Cannabis Institute, said Mr Anutin would ceremonially hand cannabis seedlings to people of Ban Non Malai village in Khu Muang district of Buri Ram province on Feb 11.



According to him, Non Malai Thai Herbal Community Enterprise and the public clinic of Ban Non Malai village received cannabis seedlings of the “Thai Stick” strain from Chaopraya Abhaiphubejhr Hospital in Prachin Buri province.

Each household will receive six seedlings to grow for medical and health purposes.

Khu Muang Hospital will receive flowers of the plants for its production of medicine for palliative care. Other parts of the cannabis plants that are not addictive, such as leaves, roots and stems will be used to make health products and offer related services.



The institute together with the Office of the Non-Formal and Informal Education and the Education Ministry would train communities to develop products and services from cannabis, Dr Kitti said. (TNA)
