Thailand takes center stage at Asia-Pacific Regional Review on Global Migration Compact

Thailand emphasizes its commitment to the Global Compact for Migration, highlighting key initiatives on labor agreements, child detention alternatives, and migrant integration at the Asia-Pacific Regional Review.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, delivered the Opening Remarks at the second Asia Pacific Regional Review of the Implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM), co-organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and the UN Network on Migration for Asia and the Pacific to highlight the importance of the implementation of the GCM in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and combating emerging challenges including climate change, transnational crimes and trafficking in persons.



At the same meeting, Ms. Pinsuda Jayanama, Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, delivered a Country Statement for Thailand and a Joint Statement on behalf of the GCM Champion Countries to reflect on major developments in Thailand including the MOUs on labour, the alternatives to detention for children, and projects to address negative stereotypes on migrants and exchange views on lessons learnt and challenges in the region.
