BANGKOK, Thailand – The Thai government is investing heavily in the Andaman Sea region to boost tourism and improve infrastructure. The Ministry of Transport has tasked the Marine Department with rapidly implementing the Andaman Ring Port project. This ambitious initiative aims to modernize port facilities, enhance water transportation, and create a seamless maritime connection between Phuket, Phang Nga, and Krabi. With this project, the government hopes to spur economic growth and promote environmentally friendly tourism in the area.
To achieve these goals, the project involves the construction and renovation of four key ports. The Thai government has allocated 360 million baht, or approximately US$10.29 million, to upgrade Maneo Pier and Chaload Pier in Phang Nga province. These projects are scheduled for completion by 2026. Additionally, Ao Po Ferry Pier in Phuket and Thalane Ferry Pier in Krabi are seeking funding of 380 million baht, or around US$10.86 million each, for their construction. The government anticipates completing these projects by 2027, subject to approval. (PRD)
