Phuket province will be proposing a ‘Phuket Health Sandbox’ project to the Cabinet meeting in Krabi next week, with an aim of lifting the level of public health services on the island and synergizing work across healthcare systems.
The ‘Phuket Health Sandbox’ proposal is an extension of Smart City and the international medical and public health center initiatives previously approved by the Cabinet. The goal of the proposal is to enable Phuket to become a secure and balanced tourism city, by using a solid healthcare base as support for the island’s tourism ecosystem and economy.
Phuket Provincial Hospital Vice CEO Bancha Khakong, the designer of the Phuket Health Sandbox system, explained that the project originated from the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization’s awareness of the health issues facing the people of Phuket. The organization laid down a policy to care for the health of people living in Phuket under 3 topics.
The first is the promotion of personal wellness and reducing risks of diseases that cause mortality, so people live longer and stay healthy. The second topic is the improvement of the provincial hospital so it possesses the capacity to accommodate the healthcare needs of the population in the province. The third topic calls for the synergy of local, state, and private healthcare systems on the island.
Phuket provincial administration will be presenting this project to the Cabinet, at the latter’s mobile meeting in Krabi province on November 15-16. If the Phuket Health Sandbox receives approval, it will become a model for developing a health tourism city and Phuket province would contribute to the wellness of its inhabitants as well as 1.2 million foreign visitors each year.
