Thai government will receive applications under two domestic tour stimulation programs next month, starting on May 17.
Yuthasak Supasorn, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said the third wave of COVID-19 blocked third-phase We Travel Together and Tour Tiew Thai programs from beginning early next month as earlier scheduled.
He said officials finally concluded that the third phase of the We Travel Together program would start to receive reservations on May 17. Under the program, the government will pay 40% or up to 3,000 baht of room rates per night for 2 million nights at hotel accommodations.
Under the Tour Tiew Thai program, the government will pay 40% of travel agent service fees on weekdays, limited at 5,000 baht per tourist who reserves a tour package priced at not more than 12,500 baht. Applications for 1 million rights to this subsidy will begin on May 27.
Both programs were still set to end on Aug 31. Mr Yuthasak said he expected that after the third wave of COVID-19 subsides, Thai tourists will take vacations from June and July onwards. (TNA)
