BANGKOK, 24 December 2014 – The Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA) has held a meeting to ponder over appropriate action against human trafficking beginning next year.

According to DOPA Director General Kritsada Boonrat, the meeting has been held in order to increase the capacity of the provincial administration officials in dealing with human trafficking issues.

33 provinces in Thailand that are located either by the sea or along the border are said to be a hotbed for human trafficking activities.

The NCPO has instructed every agency involved to strictly deal with illegal human traders to the full extent of law, after Thailand has been relegated to a Tier 3 on the US human trafficking watch list. The commitment should also be made to prevent illegal migrants being brought into the country, concluded the director.
