Thailand’s status on the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report has improved this year, as Acting Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan extended his gratitude to all those who contributed to this achievement.

At a recent anti-trafficking committee meeting, Gen Prawit praised efforts by Thai officials to crack down on human trafficking. In particular, Apinya Tajit, a deputy chief of a seafarers’ center, was given high praise for receiving the TIP Report Hero award from the U.S. Department of State.

Furthermore, the meeting acknowledged the results of the ASEAN–Australia Counter Trafficking partnership, including a draft proposal between Thailand and Australia to establish a center of excellence on counter-trafficking. Also acknowledged was cooperation between Thailand and the Philippines on international criminal investigations related to trafficking.

Additionally, the meeting approved the National Referral Mechanism for trafficking cases, which prioritizes assistance for trafficked persons as well as principles of the 2023-2027 anti-trafficking action plan.

The acting premier thanked all agencies for their hard work and urged everyone at the meeting to continue protecting the nation from human rights violations. (NNT)
