BANGKOK, 15 July 2014 – Six Thai students have won silver and bronze medals after competing in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).
The IMO was held in Cape Town, South Africa, from July 3-13, 2014. The Thai students who were sent there to compete were proud to bring back home 4 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
Thailand was ranked 21st out of 101 countries in terms of scoring. The top five highest scores went to China, the United States, Taiwan, Russia, and Japan. The country that won the most gold medals was China and the United States, winning 5 medals each.
As for next year, Thailand has been chosen to be the host of the International Mathematical Olympiad from July 3-25, 2015, in Chiang Mai. This will be the very first IMO ever hosted in the country.
