BANGKOK- The Ministry of tourism and Sports, the Ministry of Transport, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Marine Department will co-host “Thailand Yacht Show 2016” as venue for innovative super and luxy yachts in Phuket, Thailand.

The yachting event aims to support the government policy to promote Thailand as ‘Marina Hub of ASEAN’ as well as stimulate Thailand’s economy and tourism sector committed to raising the national growth.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul said Thailand Yacht Show 2016 will kick off this year’s yachting industry in Phuket and will significantly support other forthcoming international yacht events, such as the 19th Bay Regatta, Cape Panwa Hotel Raceweek, the Asian Yachting Grand Prix, and Asia Super Yacht Rendezvous.

Most importantly, the yachting event is expected to generate no less than USD 200-400 million in tourism-related earnings.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said Thailand’s marine leisure is a top tourism destination which has hugely drawn interest from both local and international travelers. However, laws and regulations regarding foreign super yacht visits may have to be reviewed. The Ministry of Transport will discuss the matter with the Marine Department, the Customs Department and the Revenue Department, among others. Such efforts will reflect the government’s policy to manifest Thailand’s potentials for becoming a Marina Hub of ASEAN and to promote Thailand as an operating base for super yacht charters.

Thailand Yacht Show 2016 will be held from February 8 until February 14, 2016. Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha will preside over the opening ceremony on February 11 at Ao Po Grand Marina, Phuket. For more information, please visit www.thailandyachtshow.com.
