The campaign aims to ensure that LGBTQ+ visitors can enjoy their time in Thailand without trouble

Thailand’s Immigration Bureau has introduced a campaign called “Welcome Pride by Immigration” to mitigate concerns over foreign LGBTQ+ visitors, if their passports don’t match their current appearance or gender.

The campaign aims to ensure that LGBTQ+ visitors can enjoy their time in Thailand without trouble. It is suggested that travelers also bring alternative documents, such as a driver’s license, a citizen ID card, and medical records, to verify their identity despite changes in their appearance. Their biometric data will also be recorded by immigration authorities, to help them navigate immigration checks. The campaign has been in effect since 1 August 2024 at five major international airports, namely Suvarnabhumi, Don Muang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, and Hat Yai.

The purpose is not only to smooth the way for LGBTQ+ travelers but also to show the world that Thailand places importance on gender equality, and that the country is ready to host World Pride 2030. (PRD)
