Thailand’s legal team travels to the Netherlands

BANGKOK, 10 April 2013 (NNT) – The Education Minister is traveling to The Hague, the Netherlands, to fight in the Phra Viharn temple case, defending Thailand’s right and sovereignty in every legal aspect. 

Deputy Prime minister and Education Minister Phongthep Thepkanjana, who is leading Thailand’s legal team in the Phra Viharn temple case against Cambodia at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), revealed that the final oral statement was nearly completed and its context had been presented earlier before the Cabinet.

Mr. Phongthep affirmed that the Thai legal team comprising first-class legal experts in international laws would fight the case with extreme caution and determination and care.

The ICJ is scheduled to hold public hearings on the case during April 15-19, during which Thailand and Cambodia will each be delivering 2 rounds of verbal statement.

The hearing will be streaming live via websites of the ICJ and the United Nations. In Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) will set up a press center at the Ministry to provide information on the case and updates to the public during the period.

The hearing will be aired live in French and English with real-time Thai translation via www.phraviharn.org, the National Broadcasting Services of Thailand (NBT channel), Radio Thailand FM 92.5, MCOT radio and MFA’s Saransom radio
