Bangkok – The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions has approved a third arrest warrant for former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for his alleged involvement in the rehabilitation of TPI Polene.
The arrest warrant was issued as Thaksin had failed to appear at the court for the first round of hearings. The National Anti-Corruption Commission acts as the complainant. Thaksin allegedly allowed the then Minister of Finance to head the revival scheme for TPI Polene, which is a private firm.
The former Minister of Finance’s role in the revival of TPI Polene was considered to have violated the Organization of Ministry, Bureau and Department Act and marred the bureaucratic system since the intervention was outside the Ministry of Finance’s scope of responsibility.
The examination of evidence and witnesses is scheduled for 7th August and enquires are due on 10th and 21st August. The court on 20th June issued a warrant for the fugitive Prime Minister for his alleged role in the Krungthai Bank loan scandal.
