The Department of Corrections has confirmed that former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Tuesday underwent surgery and is currently recovering.
The Bangkok Remand Prison reported that around 9 a.m. Thaksin was sent to the orthopedic surgical room until 2 p.m. After the surgery was completed, he was taken to the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit (NICU) to recover.
The Director-General of the Corrections Department has instructed the head of the Bangkok Remand Prison to ensure that everything is in order.
According to the Corrections Department, several inmates have been sent outside of the prison for medical treatment, either for temporary leave or extended hospital stays due to various medical conditions.
From January 1, 2022, until now, 149 inmates were sent outside of the prison for medical treatment for more than 30 days. This includes more than 30 days for 115 inmates, more than 60 days for 30 inmates, and more than 120 days for 4 others according to the medical service statistics. (TNA)
