Thammasat University Hospital has celebrated the university’s 90th anniversary by launching the Thammasat Advanced Medical Center (THAMC). This new facility provides premium medical services at reduced costs.
Since beginning operations in December 1987, the hospital has been dedicated to serving university staff and students at the Rangsit campus. Over the years, it has expanded its services to cater to the public, handling over 5,000 outpatients daily and having an annual budget of approximately 7.5 billion baht. Thammasat University Council President Prof. Surapon Nitikraipot affirmed the university’s dedication to providing care for all, stating that the hospital allocates about 50 million baht annually to treat financially underprivileged patients.
The THAMC was created to offer high-level medical care at prices about 50% lower than those at premium private hospitals. The facility features specialized clinics in areas such as orthopedics, surgery, skincare, and child health and currently has 150 beds with a capacity to serve up to 1,500 outpatients daily. Full services at the center are scheduled to commence by mid-November.
Discussing the center’s environmental and energy efficiency, THAMC Director Dr. Chittinud Havanonda said the 50,000-square-metre facility has also achieved a “platinum level” certification from the Thai Green Building Institute. It is the first hospital to earn this status, utilizing advanced green technologies that reduce energy consumption by 37% and water use by 58%, compared to similar facilities. (NNT)
