BANGKOK, Thailand – The Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB) has been instructed to launch an investigation into The Icon Group Co., Ltd. following growing consumer protection concerns.

Jiraporn Sindhuprai, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the directive on her official Facebook page and has requested a comprehensive report on the matter.

The OCPB had previously recognized the company for its public service contributions, presenting The Icon Group with a plaque during the National Consumer Protection Day in 2022. The company had been active during the COVID-19 pandemic, donating alcohol and face masks at a seminar organized by the House Committee on Consumer Protection, where the OCPB served as a speaker. In 2021, The Icon Group was nominated and awarded by the OCPB for its efforts; however, the ceremony was postponed until 2022 due to pandemic restrictions. If any misconduct is identified, the OCPB will revoke the award.

The Minister — who is currently on duty overseas — also instructed the OCPB to receive complaints from affected consumers and enforce the law strictly, including under the Direct Sales and Direct Marketing Act and the Consumer Protection Act. The investigation will include a review of any past complaints filed against the company.

Minister Jiraporn emphasized that she is closely monitoring the situation. Upon her return to Thailand, she plans to hold discussions with the Department of Special Investigation, the Anti-Money Laundering Office, and the Royal Thai Police to coordinate the investigation efforts and ensure all regulatory agencies are aligned in addressing the issue.
