The Perseid meteor shower, a dazzling annual celestial event, is set to grace the skies across Thailand from the night of August 12, coinciding with Mother’s Day, until the early hours of the following morning. The event, referred to locally as the “Mother’s Day meteor shower,” is expected to peak at around 11 p.m. on Monday, offering a spectacle of about 100 meteors per hour if conditions are optimal.
The National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) advises enthusiasts to seek spots away from city lights to improve the visibility of the meteor shower. The Perseids, debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet, appear every year from July 17 to August 24, with a peak viewing period between August 12 and 13. Observers are encouraged to watch the sky with the naked eye in a reclined position to best see the meteors streak across the sky.
NARIT has reassured the public that this stunning natural phenomenon poses no threat to the Earth. Spectators hoping for a clear view should monitor the weather, as clear skies are crucial for optimal meteor viewing. (NNT)
