BANGKOK, Thailand – The Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (RTRDA), under the Ministry of Transport, has introduced the “Think Beyond Track” initiative, a creative youth competition themed “Dream Train.”

The competition encourages young people to develop innovative ideas for Thailand’s rail system, supporting the future growth of the country’s rail industry. It is part of RTRDA’s broader mission to foster rail technology strategies and contribute to the expansion of the rail sector.

Julathep Kajornchaiyakul, Director of RTRDA, announced that the competition targets students aged 16 to 22 from provinces with rail access. Participants are invited to submit creative concepts related to rail system development. Scholarships totaling THB 420,000 will be awarded to winners, with submissions open from October 24th to November 24th, and a final deadline on December 4th. This initiative aims to inspire youth and promote career opportunities in Thailand’s growing rail industry.

The competition is part of RTRDA’s goal to position Thailand as a hub for rail technology within ASEAN. Beyond this initiative, RTRDA is working on setting national rail standards and advancing research and innovation. A significant goal is the production of 50 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) trains annually over the next three years, aligning with the country’s transition from internal combustion to electric vehicles.

The competition will be judged on creativity, practicality, and communication skills, with participation expected to reach over 200 students. If this target is met, the project will be considered a success in engaging young minds in the future of rail travel. (NNT)
