The Department of Environmental Quality Promotion, under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, has hosted an event for the World Environment Day 2013 under the concept of “Think, Eat, Save”. The idea is to have a green life style that preserves the environment. It encourages the public to become more aware of the environmental impact of their food choices resulting from their imbalance in lifestyles. According to the department, food waste is an enormous drain on natural resources and a contributor to negative environmental impacts.
According to Director General of the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion Jatuporn Burutpat, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has provided guidelines for participating nations to follow, such as promoting the production of eco-friendly products and reducing activities that harm the ecological system.
In order to address the current environmental problems, cooperation from all sides is needed, said the Director General. He also suggested possible solutions such as creating a network to promote environmental information, strict related law enforcement, and encouraging business operators to show social responsibilities by incorporating environmentally friendly activities in their operations.
He urged that all Thais slowly adjust their behaviors. By inducing small environmentally friendly activities into their daily lives, Thailand’s environment would surely improve.
