BANGKOK, July 15 — King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang has introduced three innovative therapeutic aids that can be used with computers, tablets and smart phones.
Wasant Tangwongcharoen, a science lecturer at the institute, showed in a press conference the instruments to assist patients in controlling arm muscles, balancing and recovering from knee osteoarthritis. They are user-friendly, cost Bt3,000-10,000 each and can replace imported products worth Bt4-10 million apiece.
The arm-assisting instrument has infrared and a motion sensor and can record the movements of patients for doctors’ diagnoses. It encourages patients to raise their arms with a computer game.
The balance-assisting tool and the instrument for knee osteoarthritis patients have similar functions.
A connected computer will give orders for them to move their bodies and legs for the sake of their recovery.
Mr Wasant said that the instruments were also compatible with tablet computers and smart phones.
They would be further developed so that their cost would fall to Bt2,000 apiece and they would be ready for commercial launches.
