BANGKOK, Thailand – Pol. Maj. Gen. Withaya Sriprasertpap, Commander of the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD), along with FDA officials, announced the successful raid of three warehouses in Bangkok that were illegally selling mosquito repellents imported from China on September 17. Over 7,300 units of these electric mosquito repellent devices were seized, alongside 45 other unapproved cosmetic products totaling 32,627 items, with a combined market value of over 2.5 million baht.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Withaya revealed that the operation was launched after the FDA alerted the CPPD about the illegal sale of electric mosquito repellents from China on various online platforms. These products lacked Thai labeling and registration numbers, both of which are mandatory for consumer safety. Such unregistered products may pose health risks due to potential contamination or the presence of hazardous substances.
The raid targeted three locations: a warehouse in Soi Sukhumvit 54, Phra Khanong district, a commercial building near Sampeng 2 Market in Bang Khae district, and another warehouse in Soi Thian Thale 20, Bang Khun Thian district. After gathering evidence, authorities obtained a court order to search the sites, resulting in the discovery of the unregistered mosquito repellents.
Pol. Col. Anuwat Rakcharoen, Deputy Commander of CPPD, stated that the products were imported from China and stored in the warehouses before being repackaged for sale in a fulfillment-style operation. The items were purchased at 5-8 baht per unit and resold for 10-20 baht each. The seized products will be tested by the Department of Medical Sciences to determine if they contain any hazardous chemicals, and legal action will be taken against those involved.
