Being one of the most used social media platforms in Thailand, TikTok is going to have a lot of influence on voters in the upcoming general election. To make sure it stays neutral and doesn’t become a spreader of fake news, TikTok Thailand is making necessary preparations and reinforcing its policy to underline the platform’s safety.
Product Policy Lead of TikTok Thailand Jirapat Lee talked about the importance of integrity and how TikTok is prepping for the general poll, saying the effort includes developing a safety feature to combat misinformation, sourcing contents only from reliable outlets and creators, working with industry experts to prevent gaps and loopholes, and constantly monitoring contents shared by politicians and their supporters.
With that said, news agencies, state organizations, and politicians are allowed to share content related to the election so long as they follow the rules. New tools are being added to help users explore topics they have an interest in such as the use of hashtags, another step of verification that will ask users to confirm before sharing content, and the new “Election Report” feature that allows users to report foul play to TikTok.
TikTok is also working with its fact-checking partners, including Agence France-Presse (AFP), to make sure the contents recommended to users are accurate and reliable.
In addition, the platform has created its own election center that provides users with information related to the voting process, election candidates, and other useful updates about the poll. (NNT)
