Koh Chang, Koh Kood, and Koh Mak see record numbers of visitors, with over 1.7 million expected by year-end.

TRAT, ThailandTourism in Trat’s three main islands—Koh Chang, Koh Kood, and Koh Mak—is thriving, with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) projecting over 1.7 million visitors by the end of the year. The extended Father’s Day holiday (December 5-8) has seen a surge in domestic travelers, particularly families, flocking to enjoy the scenic winter seascapes.

With the influx, ferry operators, such as Boonsiri High-Speed Ferries, have added extra trips to accommodate the crowds. At key ports like Laem Sok Pier and Ao Yai Pier, vehicles and tourists lined up since early morning. Meanwhile, Koh Chang Ferry services have reported full operations, transporting up to 500 vehicles per hour across four ferries.

According to Mr. Attapol Klinthap, Manager of Boonsiri High-Speed Ferries, tourist traffic is expected to remain steady into the New Year. The company has increased its morning routes to ensure smooth travel for visitors.

TAT Trat Office Director, Korakot Opas, highlighted that the region’s natural attractions continue to attract both Thai and international tourists. Koh Chang offers 7,000 accommodations, Koh Kood 1,600, and Koh Mak 630—all of which are almost fully booked for the New Year period.

This high-season surge underscores Trat’s growing popularity as a prime coastal destination in Thailand.
