Tourist surge in South Thailand prompts ‘Raja Ferry’ to apply for island-connecting bus service concessions

Raja Ferry expands services to connect Surat Thani with Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Phaluai, meeting the growing demand from tourists with new bus routes and seamless travel options.

BANGKOK, Thailand – Raja Ferry unveils its strategy to expand transportation routes connecting the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea, Dec 6. The company has launched new bus routes linking Surat Thani with Donsak Pier, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, and Koh Phaluai to accommodate the growing demand from domestic and international tourists.

Mr. Apichart Chayopas, Managing Director of Raja Ferry Port Public Company Limited (RP), stated that the increasing number of travelers utilizing Raja Ferry’s services has led to the addition of more buses to meet demand. Its subsidiary, RP Transportation (RPT), has recently obtained licenses for three bus routes:

  1. Surat Thani Bus Terminal – Donsak Pier – Koh Samui Bus Terminal
  2. Surat Thani Bus Terminal – Donsak Pier – Koh Phangan
  3. Surat Thani Bus Terminal – Donsak Pier – Koh Phaluai



The company is also exploring new bus routes to connect the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea, aiming to enhance convenience and create seamless travel options for tourists. Plans include studying the feasibility of establishing a station in Phuket to provide better connections between Surat Thani’s islands and key Andaman destinations like Krabi and Phuket.

Currently, Raja Ferry offers services from Koh Samui and Koh Phangan to Surat Thani and collaborates with partners to operate over 10 routes across Southern Thailand. With over 45,000 passengers per month and average monthly revenue of 1.5 million baht, the company aims to increase daily ridership to 3,000 passengers.
