HUA HIN, Thailand – Hotels and resorts along Hua Hin Beach, Khao Takiab Beach, and Pranburi Beach in Prachuap Khiri Khan have raised red flags, warning tourists not to enter the sea due to strong winds and waves as the monsoon season begins, November 24. Beachfront vendors in Hua Hin have been moving their goods to higher ground in anticipation of the continuing rough weather.

This morning, the beaches of Hua Hin, Khao Takiab, Hua Don, and Pranburi saw powerful waves and rising tides, which continued through the afternoon. Water levels reached the edge of the Hua Hin seawall, prompting local businesses to raise red flags to signal the danger of swimming until conditions improve.

Tourists, mostly from Scandinavian countries, were seen taking photos, walking along the beach, and riding horses, while some stayed in their accommodations or sunbathed. However, despite the warnings, a few individuals were still spotted entering the water. The Hua Hin Municipal Office has placed green, yellow, and red flags along the beach in multiple languages to clearly communicate the safety measures. The red flag, in particular, warns visitors not to swim under any circumstances.

Ms. Orawan Panngulerm, a beach vendor and owner of one of the 22 beachfront food stalls, mentioned that her team had moved chairs, beach beds, and other items to higher ground as waves and winds caused sea water to surge toward the beach. Today marks the fourth consecutive day of this severe weather pattern, though waves are expected to subside in the afternoon, and conditions should return to normal.

As this is the start of the annual monsoon season, local vendors are accustomed to these weather patterns, but they remain vigilant for any damage that the larger waves might cause. Fortunately, the influx of international visitors has helped businesses, as many have rented beach chairs, ordered food, and enjoyed the sunny days.
