BANGKOK, 7 March 2013  Deputy Minister of Transport Gen. Prin Suwannathat has assured that air traffic control towers across the country will be able to operate continuously 24 hours a day without effects from a possible power outage on 5 April.

Gen. Prin said after visiting the air traffic control tower at Suvarnabhumi Airport that the Metropolitan Electricity Authority would send electricity to Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Company for no less than 375 volts from 5-14 April 2013 when Myanmar temporarily stops distributing gas to Thailand. The backup power will be prepared in case a blackout occurs during the period.

The deputy minister, therefore, expressed confidence that air traffic control at all airports nationwide would carry on as usual and would not be affected should there be an electricity shortage.

Aeronautical Radio of Thailand will conduct a power outage drill on 3 April as a preparation.
