Transport Minister signs bullet-train deal with Japan

BANGKOK, 27 May 2015  – Transport Minister Prajin Juntong and his Japanese counterpart Akihiro Ota on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on potential introduction of Japan’s shinkansen bullet-train technology in Thailand.

ACM Prajin said a feasibility study would be conducted by both countries. They will also evaluate the profitability of a 660-kilometer high-speed railway project connecting Bangkok and the northern province of Chiang Mai.

The two countries will look into the construction of stations and routes.
