BANGKOK, Nov 25 — Winning seven awards at the 11th World Robot Olympiad in Russia, an enthusiastic team of more than one hundred Thai students returned to Bangkok in triumph yesterday.
More than 100 students representing Thailand won seven awards in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2014 in Russia arrived at the Thai capital’s Suvarnabhumi International Airport to a warm welcome on Tuesday.
Winning the top prize under-19 team for autonomous robot category are students from Chaiyaphum Pakdee Chumphon School in Thailand’s Chaiyaphum in the Northeast, while second prize winners are students from Chakkham Kanathorn School in Lamphun in the North.
Under-15 teams from Chaiyaphum Pakdee Chumphon School received second and third prizes in the same category.
The first and second prizes winners in WRO GEN II Football category are students from two Bangkok schools, Saint Gabriel’s College and Yothin Burana School, while students from Thai Niyom School Songkhrao in Bangkok won a special award for their creative and innovative robotics project.
The 11th World Robot Olympiad took place in Russia’s Caucasian Riviera resort city of Sochi on the Black Sea last weekend, opening Friday and closing Sunday.
First held in 2004 in Singapore, the World Robot Olympics it now attracts more than 1000 participants from some 40 countries.
