BANGKOK, Thailand –The Thai Meteorological Department predicts that Tropical Storm “Pabuk” will make landfall along Vietnam’s coastline between December 24 and 25. The storm is expected to weaken upon encountering a cold air mass, but its effects will bring rainfall to various parts of Thailand, including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, as well as increased rainfall in the southern region.

Somkhon Tonjan, Director of the Weather Forecast Division, reported that as of this morning, the storm was centered over the southern South China Sea, approximately 500 kilometers northeast of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The storm has a maximum wind speed near its center of 65 km/h and is moving slowly westward. Once it reaches Vietnam, it is expected to downgrade into a depression and eventually a low-pressure system due to the prevailing cold air.

Between December 25 and 26, the storm will influence weather patterns in Thailand, bringing easterly and southeasterly winds that carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand over the upper regions of the country. Northeastern, central, eastern, and Bangkok areas may experience scattered rain, while the southern region is forecasted to see increased rainfall. Residents are advised to prepare for changing weather conditions and farmers should take precautions to protect crops from potential damage.

Meanwhile, moderate waves are expected in the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. Waves in the Gulf will reach up to 2 meters, with higher waves in areas experiencing thunderstorms. In the Andaman Sea, waves will be around 1 meter, increasing to 1-2 meters offshore. Mariners are advised to exercise caution, especially in areas with thunderstorms.
