
PHETCHABURI, Thailand – A severe summer storm with a tropical storm struck the Nong Kang community in the municipal area of Cha-am, Phetchaburi, damaging over 15 homes on March 8. Community leaders and officials immediately visited the area to assess the damage.
The storm caused significant damage to the roofs and structures of several houses, with one particularly hard-hit home belonging to 83-year-old Uraiwan Maikaew and 85-year-old Boonchuey Sali. Their roof and tiles were completely blown away, and their belongings were scattered throughout the house. Boonchuey recounted that, before the storm hit, he and his wife were resting outside when the powerful winds and rain struck. The roof was ripped off before their eyes, and they were forced to take shelter on the floor as debris fell around them.
Volunteers cleared debris including roofing materials that were blown onto a nearby bridge. Cha-am District Chief Kaew Kongwong reported that the storm had affected approximately 14 homes, with 2-3 severely damaged. Emergency aid is being coordinated to support the affected residents, including food, water, and recovery efforts.
