PATTANI, Jan 30 – A bombing in this southern border province on Thursday killed two rangers in a teacher protection unit, according to local police.
Police investigators rushed to inspect the scene and found the body of a slain ranger at the scene.
The dead man was identified as Watchara Wailarp, 22, and his unit companion Anusak Pinapong, 28, was severely wounded and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Initial investigation found that an improvised explosive weighing 25-30 kilogrammes was built into a cooking gas cylinder and buried under the bench where the ill-fated rangers were sitting before going on a teacher protection mission. The explosive was detonated using a radio signal.
It was the latest violence in a string of almost daily bomb attacks occurring targeting security personnel.
