PATTANI, Jan 11 — Two soldiers were killed and two wounded in Pattani in bomb attack while they were heading to protect teachers and students at a school which was organising activities to mark National Children’s Day on Saturday.

Pattani police and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit rushed to the scene at 9am after receiving report that a military pickup truck was hit in a bombing on the Ban Buenae Kuebong-Ban Buenae Pinae Road in Yarang district.

At the scene, the officials found the Pattani Special Forces pickup was destroyed by the explosion. Two soldiers were killed at the scene while two others were wounded and sent to hospital in Yarang district.

The bomb caused a two by three metre hole in the road.

Police investigators said the soldiers were on their way to provide security protection at Ban Buenae Pinae School which was holding activities for Children’s Day.

On the way to the school, the military patrol passed over a bomb built into a water pipe, with an electrical lead extending more than 100 metres into a rubber plantation to trigger the bomb.
