BANGKOK, Thailand – Two Thai films have surpassed the 300-million-baht mark at the national box office in 2024, making this a successful year for the country’s film industry. “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” from GDH and “Death Whisperer 2,” produced by M Studio and Channel 3, have both achieved impressive earnings as they vie for the title of the highest-grossing Thai film of the year.
M Studio has confirmed that “Death Whisperer 2” now leads the box office, grossing 350 million baht within four and a half days of release. The supernatural action-horror film has set several records, including the fastest Thai film to reach 100 million baht in 36 hours and 200 million baht in three days. It also recorded the highest-grossing opening weekend of 2024 in Bangkok and surrounding areas.
Before being overtaken by “Death Whisperer 2,” “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” held the top position, grossing 337 million baht. However, “Death Whisperer 2” continues to dominate, breaking records for this year’s highest-grossing opening day in Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
Starring Nadech Kugimiya, Denise Jelilcha Kappun, and Kajbhunditt Jaidee, “Death Whisperer 2” follows the story of a man seeking revenge against a malevolent ghost. The film’s IMAX-special format and advanced sound design have played a role in its success, offering audiences a more interactive experience and raising the standard for Thai cinema. (NNT)
