Two Thai nationals were injured by broken glass in the powerful explosion in the Lebanese capital of Beirut, said the spokesperson of the Thai Labour Ministry.
Deputy Permanent Secretary of Labour, Theanrat Nawamawat, who is the ministry’s spokesperson said that the Minister-Counsellor (Labour Affairs) of the Thai embassy in Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh reported that two Thais were injured in the powerful blast that rocked Beirut on Tuesday.
The first one is identified as Weerayut Boonrak, a chef at a Japanese restaurant. He was hurt by shattered glass and his head hit the ceiling. The other is Thanathat Thanyodsak, a jewelry technician, whose hand was injured by broken glass. He also had ringing in his ears. They were treated for the wounds and are recovering at home, she said.
There are currently 170 Thais, residing and working in Lebanon. Most of them are gem and diamond workers, massage therapists and chefs.
Lebanese authorities urged people in the area of the explosion to wear protective masks and gloves due to reports of toxic gases released from the blast.
The Thai embassy in Riyadh has been closely monitored the situation and is ready to assist Thai citizens in Lebanon, she added. (TNA)
