LAMPANG, 7 May 2014 – Flash floods have been triggered as a result of four hours of torrential rain, inundating hundreds of homes in two villages in the northern province of Lampang.

Residents of Ban Lao and Ban Hong Kok in Lampang’s Muang District have found that their homes and belongings were submerged underwater up to 30 centimeters to one meter at today’s dawn.

Meanwhile, several spots on the highway linking the city of Lampang to its neighboring Muang Pan District were also flooded. Motorists are warned to be careful in using the route.

Local authorities said the area is usually hit by flash floods many times a year. However, this year the floods came too early.
