NARATHIWAT, Feb 26 – Two female defence volunteers have been shot in the latest series of attacks in this violence-ridden southernmost province on Wednesday.
The two village defence volunteers were wounded in a shooting while they were travelling from Narathiwat’s Rue So municipality on a motorcycle back home. Two gunmen on another motorcycle fired at them as they were travelling on Ban Lamoh Nok Road in Rueso Ok subdistrict.
The victims were identified as Saisuda Kongchon, 31, and Patchari Ubonpakdi, 38. They were sent to Narathiwatrajanakarin Hospital for treatment.
In a separate incident, Narathiwat’s Chanae’s district chief has survived a roadside bombing as he and five other passengers travelling in a pick-up truck to Narathiwat Provincial Hall this morning.
The explosion injured no one, but destroyed his vehicle.
Police estimated the improvised explosive weighed 80 kg. It was built into a gas cylinder and detonated using a radio signal at the scene of the attack.
