As the presidential election approaches, businesses in Washington, D.C., are boarding up storefronts amid concerns of potential unrest on Election Day.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – With the U.S. presidential election just days away, some stores in Washington, D.C., are preparing for potential unrest on Tuesday (Nov 5). Many shop owners have begun boarding up windows and glass storefronts in anticipation of possible disruptions.

Recent national and swing state polls indicate an exceptionally tight race between the two main contenders: Vice President Kamala Harris, representing the Democratic Party, and former President Donald Trump, representing the Republican Party.

On Friday, the governor of Washington State announced that select members of the National Guard have been placed on standby following intelligence suggesting the possibility of election-related violence next week. Though polls predict a clear victory for Harris in Washington State, it is also one of two states where ballot drop boxes were recently set on fire. According to the University of Florida’s Election Lab, over 2 million people in Washington State have already cast their votes in advance.
