UDON THANI, 14 August 2011 -Red Shirt core member Kwanchai Praipana is set to make another attempt to seek freedom for his fellows who have been in detention since last year.
United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship co-leader and President of We Love Udon group Kwanchai Praipana disclosed that he had planned to bail out 25 UDD members on Monday, using salary slips of all Udon Thani MPs as the collateral.
Mr. Kwanchai has earlier requested the court to release the red-shirt members on bail for four times. All his requests were rejected.
He said that the current political situation in the country was showing a good sign and that national unity was likely to happen. He claimed that Justice Minister Police General Pracha Promnok also agreed on the idea that the detained UDD members should be treated fairly. Temporary release of detained UDD members should be the first step of the fair treatment.
The UDD co-leader added that the National Human Rights Commission and the independent fact-finding committee for national reconciliation formed during the Abhisit government also found that the charges filed against the UDD members were excessive.
The 25 red-shirt members face charges of inciting people to take part in illegal acts, trespassing and vandalizing public property, using force to prevent authorities from performing their duties, and attempting to burn the City Hall on May 19, 2010. They are among 132 protesters in custody nationwide.
