BANGKOK, 28 April 2011  – US Ambassador to Thailand Her Excellency Kristie Anne Kenney has asked both Thailand and Cambodia to come to the negotiating table once again in order to solve the border disputes in a peaceful manner.

Speaking after meeting with Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva at Government House on Thursday, the US ambassador told the press that they discussed the prevailing Thai-Cambodian border situation. She said the US still deems Thailand and Cambodia its allies in Asia.

Ms Kenny continued that the US hence wants the two countries to exercise maximum restraint in solving the row together and hopes that Thailand and Cambodia will go back to the negotiating table.

The US ambassador then expressed her hope that the ASEAN mechanism will be able to facilitate the negotiation process and helps the two conflicting nations solve the problem.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya on Wednesday met Ms Kenny to elaborate facts regarding the Thai-Cambodian border clashes. Earlier on Monday, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton issued a statement expressing her deep concerns over the issue.
