UTHAI THANI – Uthai Thani provincial governor Praphas Malakan said today that water in reservoirs has been decreasing in volume despite heavy downpours.

Most of the rainfalls had occurred outside of the reservoir areas, he said. In particular, the water volume in Thap Salao reservoir in Lan Sak district and Huai Khun Kaeo reservoir in Huay Khot district has not as yet reached half of its capacity.

Thap Salao reservoir currently contains 65.76 million cubic meters of water, or 41.10 percent of its capacity while Huai Khun Kaeo currently holds 20.66 million cubic meters of water, which is just less than 50 percent.

The provincial governor suggested that farmers grow plants that do not need much water or alternate the cultivating of their crops, including those grown depending on the demand. In the face of a looming drought, the farmers were strongly advised to use water sparingly.
