Uthai Thani – Residents of flood-torn Uthai Thani province have found that one way to enjoy the situation, is by turning their communities into water playgrounds.

Children in Koh Thepho subdistrict now spend their school break playing with their friends in flooded streets, making them their DIY playgrounds, under the close supervision of their parents. Shop workers made temporarily jobless by the intrusion of excess water, have also taken the opportunity to earn income, selling snacks, drinks and meals to the villagers. Some are even able to catch fish they can sell.

Uthai Thani is among the worst-hit provinces as the protracted monsoon season has caused the main rivers, Sakae Krang and Chao Phraya to overflow their banks, spreading large amounts of water through five townships. Car ferries across the Chao Phraya River and some waterfront shops have had to suspend their services during this period.
