BANGKOK, 23 April 2015 – Various politicians, academics and leaders of political movements have accepted an invitation from the Center for Reconciliation and Reform to share views and opinions while the Deputy Prime Minister has given an assurance that will be no detention of individuals.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan revealed that the meeting is aimed at gathering groups from all sides to foster a dialogue of reconciliation. He confirmed that no arrests will be made of any of the attendees.
The meeting was held at the Royal Thai Army Club. Notable attendees included leaders from the Democrat Party, and Pheu Thai Party as well as the United Front for Democracy Against Dictatorship. The People’s Democratic Reform Committee did not send any representatives to attend the meeting.
Furthermore the Center for Reconciliation has invited certain members of the National Reform Council to express their opinions as well. The Deputy PM said the meeting is the first of many reconciliation meetings planned.
