BANGKOK, Thailand Bangkok Deputy Governor, Chakkaphan Phewngam, inspected the progress of the Waste-to-Energy Project at the On Nut Waste Disposal Center on September 14. This project is part of the policy initiatives of Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt and is under the supervision of the Bangkok Environment Department. The facility, operated by New Sky Energy (Bangkok) Co., Ltd., is designed to incinerate at least 1,000 tons of waste per day to generate electricity.

The project, which commenced construction on February 19, 2024, is expected to be completed by November 14, 2026, taking 1,000 days in total. The goal is to reduce the amount of waste being sent to landfills by converting waste into energy. This public-private partnership project uses a Stoker-type incinerator system, which processes waste in a controlled environment. The waste is stored in a closed system for 3-5 days to reduce moisture content by 35%, before being transferred into the incinerator at temperatures between 850°C and 1,100°C. The heat produced generates high-pressure steam, which is converted into electricity via a turbine and generator system.

As of now, the project has progressed 18.46% against the planned 19.15%. Current work includes concrete foundations, waste pits, ground beams, and the installation of electrical connections in collaboration with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). Water pipelines and meters are also being installed.

Deputy Governor Chakkaphan urged the contractors to prioritize safety measures and regularly inspect the construction equipment to ensure stability. He also directed the Environment Department to continuously monitor the project to ensure its timely completion by the end of 2026.
