LAMPANG, 8 March 2015 – The Third Army Area has sent out water and fire trucks around Lampang Province to spray water to reduce haze and air pollution which has covered the province since Jan 2015.

The trucks move past living quarters in Muang District while spraying water into the air to increase moisture and simultaneously decrease the fine particle load in the atmosphere which is still higher than the safe level.

The officials on all trucks also encouraged local residents to spray water in their house gardens and the front lawns, as well as avoid any fire until the air quality becomes normal.

Measurement of air quality in Lampang in the morning of March 8th indicates that haze remains heavy in the area with the Particle Matter (PM10) level over standard. In Muang District the PM10 level is at 105 micrograms per cubic meter whereas in the sub-districts of Ban Dong, Sop Pat and Mae Mo, the particle loads are at 108, 100 and 96 micrograms per cubic meter respectively. Overall, air quality ranges from medium level down to the level which causes health problems.

The Third Army Area sent its 2nd Corps Commander to inspect the progress of haze and fire control measures in Lampang during the weekend and found the situation was satisfactory. However, the officer urged provincial authorities to standby for emergency until the air quality is back to normal situation.
