NAKHON RATCHASIMA – Residents of Nakhon Ratchasima have been prohibited from using water from Lam Takhong Dam for farming as the water level has fallen below normal.
According to the director of the Lam Takhong water reserve and distribution project, the latest reading showed that the amount of water at Lam Takhong Dam was standing at 97 million cubic meters, or only 30 percent of its full capacity. The figure has prompted related officials to reduce the amount of water being released from the dam each day.
An announcement has been issued to local residents to inform them of the water situation. Farmers were also ordered not to pump water from the Lam Takhong River below the dam for agricultural use as the amount discharged is only enough for tap water production and household consumption.
Meanwhile, officials from the Army Region 2 and local administrative staff are conducting an inspection of the Lam Takhong River to make sure there are no obstructions in the waterway or improper use of water among residents.
