SONGKHLA,7 May 2015  – The chief of the Meteorological Department has launched a weather center on the southeastern coast of Songkhla province.

Meteorological Department Chief Wanchai Sakudomchai, presided over the opening of the new meteorological center launched in the southeastern region of Songkhla.

The director of the new center revealed that meteorological officials had been operating out of a small two-storey facility that was almost 40 years old. The old building suffered from limited capacity and poor structural integrity, coupled with outdated equipment and technology. It could no longer meet modern-day needs for precise, accurate weather forecasting and disaster prevention.

A 44.8-million-baht budget was requested for a new building in 2014 and construction was completed in January 22, 2015. The new building received assistance and support from Hat Yai municipality in terms of the building’s design.

The new weather center is located on Saiburi road, Bho Yang sub-district, Muang district, Songkhla province. Weather forecasts from the center are available everyday at Tel. 074-311-760.
